Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and so are the festivities and extra travel that comes with the season. We'll break down some tips and tricks to keep your feet pain free so you can focus on your friends and family this Thanksgiving!

Know Before You Go

Thanksgiving puts a lot of stress on your feet. The extra travel, standing, cooking and helping out with any extra festivities is sure to cause some aches and pains at the end of the day. To prepare for a long day on your feet, make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes that will give you the extra support you need. Getting enough rest and staying hydrated before the events start is another great way to make sure you are prepared for a full day.

If you are traveling long distance in a car or plane, wearing compression socks and taking breaks to stretch periodically can help with circulation.

When You Get There

You made it. Your dish was ready in time and now the party can begin. Keep these tips below in mind as you go throughout your Thanksgiving day so you can have as much fun as possible. Taking a moment to periodically sit down for a minute or two can help ease some of the pressure on your feet and reduce any swelling. Don't get too comfortable though, everyone has to help during Thanksgiving!

Another helpful tip is to watch your intake. You know best what type of foods make your feet and ankles swell. Salt, excessive carbs and sugar all contribute to inflammation and should be eaten in moderation. Avoid any foods that you know can cause flare-ups in your body if you suffer from conditions like gout.

After The Party

We know Thanksgiving is a long day, which is why you should make sure to pencil in some time to rest! Elevate your feet and kick back, as your feet and ankles can be swollen from a long day of standing. Massaging your feet can help relax your body as well as improve blood flow circulation. Lastly if you are going out for a late night of Black Friday shopping, make sure that you have given yourself enough time to digest your food and maybe even take a nap so you can be alert and ready to snag the best deals!
