The holidays are done, and real life is back in full swing keeping everyone busy. Finding activities near you that offer a chance to stay mobile and get some steps in while doing something fun can be a challenge!
That's why we've compiled a list of some of our favorite options around the valley that will have you up and moving in no time!
Concerts
Phoenix has a wide variety of small and large venues with a vibrant music scene of established and upcoming artists. There are shows every weekend, and shows throughout various weekdays as well. You can see a list up upcoming shows at different venues here.
Concerts are a great way to get some activity in your day while having a good time because most concerts are standing only, meaning seats are limited or not available. But even if you go to a seated concert like the ones at the Arizona Financial Theater, finding parking, waiting in line and taking an extra walk around the block before heading back to your car is a great option to get active and have fun in the valley.
Local Parks/Hikes
You know better than us what parks and hikes are closest and most appealing to you. Find something you can get excited about, a new route to hike on your favorite mountain, maybe check out a new park and bring some friends/family to play some games or have a picnic in the grass.
Parks offer lots of paved walking area, so stumbling and tripping is less of a concern than it would be when you are hiking. Parks also have things like swings and playgrounds for the kids to use while you get some steps in too.
South Mountain Park Preserve, Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, and Papago Park offer natural wonders across the valley for you to explore with your loved ones or even a solo trip! If you want to get out of the valley, check out our post here to get some options for hiking in Sedona, Flagstaff and more!
Downtown Phoenix
Downtown Phoenix has plenty to offer within walking distance once you get there. You can also hop on the light rail and bus systems to get around town even further, if that's from North Phoenix to south, or even all the way to Mesa!
Downtown Phoenix includes Chase Stadium, Footprint Center, tons of amazing local restaurants and bars, and unique blocks like the Warehouse District, and the Roosevelt Row Arts District. Shopping, dining and unique storefronts offer a glimpse into the best parts of Downtown Phoenix while we think the best part is that you can walk around to almost all of it! Take a walk or short drive to explore the historic homes in the Encanto neighborhoods
Heated Pool Exercise
We know, this isn't as flashy as Downtown Phoenix or hiking in the incredible state parks Arizona has, but getting a day pass to a local hotel or community center with a heated pool offers you a chance to get mobile and have fun without breaking the bank.
Swimming related exercise is always a great option if it's available because of how much easier on your joints and bones it is, allowing you to fully participate in your activities without feeling limited by the pain or discomfort that a long walk around the town might give you.
First Fridays/ Farmers Markets
Local events are the staple of any good town, and in the Phoenix area, there are lots of good events! First Friday's in Downtown Phoenix offer a look into the local vendors and people that make up our great state. Shopping, drinks and good eats lie ahead when part of the Roosevelt Art District is shut down to vehicle traffic so you can explore the unique cultures and art around the block.
Saturday farmers markets happen in Phoenix too, but there are popups all the way from Peoria to Chandler and lots in between! Get to know the people who grow your food and take the chance to grab some veggies or fruit directly form the source. Other farms and small businesses get together for you to try canned goods, fresh produce and snacks all while walking around and getting active. Pair the farmers markets with a walk at the nearest park or a short hike and you have got a full day of exercise with some goodies and memories to show for it!
